Formuler Z11 Pro Max: a very short review

Did I not write somewhere that I don’t do reviews? Oh, well! This one is special and fully deserves a review.

I don’t want to gush praise and have this read like a fan-boy review or — heaven forbid — a paid review! No, no. This is from the heart.

Formuler Z11 Pro Max: a very short review

I’ve cut the cable, so to speak, and purchased one of these round about March 2025. The idea was to load it with IPTV streams and have a media player for my TV.

It’s a good design: compact and light, measuring 110mm x 110mm and 21mm high. It runs cool-and-quiet, and can handle all the media that I’ve thrown at it. Jellyfin is installed, and it functions as a client seamlessly. The box is quick and responsive, with IPTV channel changes happening as they should; swift and instantaneous without any lag. I know, a lot of this is probably down to my broadband speed but at least the Formuler Z11 can keep up.

The Z11 Pro Max’s remote is well laid out, making it easy to use without even looking at it.

There is a media browser app pre-installed and although the app is capable of playing video, music and displaying photos, it is a little…plain. It’s just a browser, looks like a browser and that’s it.

The real star of the show is the MYTVOnline3 app which is bundled with the box. It is an IPTV-only app and is in a league of its own. The app is well laid out, stable and responsive; ad-free (very important) and there is simply no comparison when put besides other free IPTV apps. I don’t pay for apps, see? Ne-ver! And no nag screens bothering you to upgrade to the pro version; this is it. The app has a DVR if you need it and loading playlists is a breeze.

Where MYTVOnline3 falls short

My list of complaints is small.

  1. No EPG loading from .m3u file
Adding an EPG URL is possible via the interface, but if you have multiple EPG sources, you will be typing a lot. The EPG entry in the .m3u file is ignored; for example:

    EXTM3U url-tvg="https://exmpl.org/movies.xml,https://exmpl.org/sports.gz"

  2. Some URLs don’t play
Rare but definitely don’t work if the #EXTINF contains a http-referrer=. Whilst these types of streams will work in almost every other app, MYTVOnline3 cannot resolve these.

  3. Recording
For a clean recording, the app needs to be tuned to the channel. Whilst it does record if on another channel, the recordings are not watchable; they stutter and skip. It would be nice if MYTVOnline3 could switch to the channel automatically when the recording starts.

  4. Notifications
An annoyance which cannot be silenced. For example, my EPG refreshes every 24-hours and when this happens, a notification is logged to say it has been done. It would be cool if these could be shut off.

Verdict

A solid bit of kit, capable of handling most media files and IPTV streams beautifully. Enough said. Buy one today.
