Inappropriate office attire
The weather is cooling down and everyone is starting to dress with a few more layers. Women are almost always feeling cold, so even more layers for them. And the men? I’m glad to see less men wearing shorts to the office. Thankfully, they never wear shorts to my company’s office, but I have seen them lurking around outside or heading up in the lift to other floors.
As a man, I find this highly irregular and unusual. Shorts for men is not, in my opinion, appropriate office attire. Women? They can get away with most things fashion-wise, but men? This is just plain wrong.
When I was a little boy, we wore shorts. We all longed to start high school to finally start wearing long trousers. It was the mark of becoming a man, growing up, leaving little boy things behind. Shorts are OK too if you are on holiday in a hot place, but DO NOT WEAR SHORTS TO THE OFFICE!
I’ve seen my company’s HR reprimand women for wearing sandals to the office before, especially on hot summer days. If there has ever been an incident with a bloke wearing shorts, I have not witnessed it. Hopefully, my male colleagues have a bit of sense.
Ties for men have become all but extinct — I have a cupboard full of them and they have not been worn to the office in years. I think I last wore one at a wedding a few years ago.
Please, oh please, office-working men, don’t let the long trousers go the same way as the neck tie. Man up, FFS!
