Loud, noisy keyboards

The office has recently replaced all keyboards with these weird, tiny, membrane-keyed, laptop-like, flimsy, rubbish keyboards. Honestly, the width of the entire thing is about 9cm. They are whisper quiet which may be nice for those who need to feel like they work in a library. But my fingers just do not work on these things.

I had the foresight (for once) to check in with one of my IT buddies regarding the replacement date for my area and then asked what they were doing with the old, mechanical, noisy keyboards. The plan was to bin them, it transpired.

I asked if I could keep my old one, provided I kept it out of sight when not in use. Be my guest, was the reply. We desk-share, see?

Now, I’m the loudest typist in the office!

Last week, whilst moving from point A to point B to do something or other, I noticed some lady with long nails typing away at an insane speed on the new, mini ones. How…on…earth? I’ve tried; I cannot. And, because of her nails, the keys made this strange sound, almost like the sound that kissing lips would make if both sets were filled to the brim with silicone or Botox or whatever.

I’ll happily bear the stares and the bursting chests dying to exhale a “sshhhhh” in my direction.

Turn it down for what?
