Something I never thought I would do
I have recently returned from my Summer holiday. I tend to pack light but for some reason, this time I decided to take along four books in my luggage. With a six-hour flight from London Gatwick ahead, I calculated that I would be able to get through a few chapters of book one on the way over there, and read a bit more whilst on holiday.
I was being overly ambitious by taking four books. I mean, there was no way that I was going to manage to read all four books over a two-week period. Generally a slow, measured reader, I like to absorb everything on-page, and fully immerse myself in the story. I also tend to read fiction, as I love a good yarn and the escape it provides, sparking my imagination and mind-wondering. I very rarely read non-fiction, and these four holiday fiction title were a double-escape, so to speak.
They were all picked at random from my dusty bookshelf, where books sometimes go to catch yellow-page and die.
The list, in order:
- The Alchemist - Paulo Coelho (review)
- Tick Tock - James Patterson (review)
- Brida - Paulo Coelho (review)
- Eleven Minutes - Paulo Coelho (review)
The “something I never thought I would do” part is that I read all four books in eight days! As in, eight consecutive days. I’ve never done that before and I certainly did not intend to do it when I packed these novels.
Oh well, sometimes we surprise ourselves, don’t we?
