Thunderbird Supernova grey theme
A few years ago, I made this: A no-fuss grey theme for Thunderbird.
When Thunderbird Supernova (115) arrived, it rendered my theme mostly useless. I therefore went back to basics and made another, but this time, with the legacy userChrome style sheets.
Here it is on Codeberg: Thunderbird Supernova Grey.
I had added it to Github and largely forgotten about it until someone dropped me a line recently, asking how come the old theme no longer works. They, like me, preferred the mid-grey this theme adds to the application. I personally cannot look at dark themes for too long as they make my eyes feel very uncomfortable. Light themes are OK, but after a while, these too can induce some eye strain.
Without regurgitating the previous release article, the effect in this theme is the same: it turns down the lights just enough to feel more comfortable. The major difference is the base colour. The original theme used #cccccc and this one is based on e7e7e7 which is lighter, but still dark enough to drop the glare and contrast.
The other major difference is how much easier this one is to tweak to one’s preference. It is literally CSS and there is not much in there. I’ve also coloured the “Archive” and the “Delete” button icons to stand out a bit more.
Thunderbird Supernova Grey, a minimalist theme using a light grey background (#e7e7e7) that makes it easier to look at. That’s my best sales pitch.
I made this for me, for my own comfort. If anyone else finds this useful too, my work here is done, and that’s a bonus. Let me know if you try it out, or if you have any tips for making it even better.
