Colleagues across the org are very annoyed. They huff and puff at my lack of immediate response to their incessant messaging on Teams.
My standard response — often said in person and sometimes in a Teams message back — is that I treat Teams as I do e-mail; I will respond when I get to it. If you want something done yesterday, walk over to my desk (if I’m in the office on the same day as you) or drop me an e-mail. Better yet, call me.
Sorry, dear colleagues. I’m not built to fire-fight your fires; I have my own flames to quench today. Your Teams messages can wait, along with your e-mails. I prioritise, as I’m sure you all do, and if I’ve assigned the lowest priority to your Teams messages, don’t take it personally. Because you do not exhibit the same behaviour when I do that to your e-mails.
